Municipality funded dog kennels will be opened near Veliko Tarnovo in June. They will host up to 250 canines. The construction of the kennels is expect to cost 100,000 euro . The premises are currently being finished – more shelters are being erected; each dog will have a doghouse of its own the shelters.
Six people will take care of the dogs once the place starts running – a veterinary doctor who will double as a manager and 5 dog carers. The premises were carefully chosen so that it conforms to the established requirements such as humane animal treatment, close proximity to town but at the same time distant enough so that the noise doesn’t cause inconvenience to the public. The kennels are hosted in a wooded area and have live guard.
The annual budget of kennels is set on 30,000 euro. Sick and aggressive stray dogs will be the first to be collected off the streets; they will be treated at the animal infirmary at the premises. Dogs will not be castrated though. Frequent adoption campaigns will be held and the kennels will also have a Facebook page.
A major renovation of Veliko Tarnovo High Street has been schedules for the spring according to a local newspaper. The last time any improvements were done was more than half a century ago. Reconstruction works will span from the Central Post Office all the way to the Farmers’ Market. The street has sound and solid foundation and that’s why it lasted so long considering that it was built in the time of socialism; so initial estimations show that fixing the street won’t cost that much – only 100,000 euro. The plan of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality to close off the street for vehicles and convert it into a pedestrians-only promenade is now completely abandoned. Beside the street itself the sidewalks will also be redone. The reconstruction is expected to be completed within 2-3 months of its initiation.
The secretive investor willing to operate the Gorna Oryahovitsa airport, near Veliko Tarnovo, was disclosed to be an American. The foreigner wants to run the airfield for the next 35 years. The investor owns the Geri Holding Company operating primarily in Italy.
The businessman deposited his investment plan last October; reportedly he will put 14 million euro towards the airport and will open between 350 and 400 new jobs. The newly employed staff will undergo training and will acquire the needed qualification in Italy. The investor is said to intend to set up an aircraft maintenance and repairs hangar.
The American entrepreneur also shows interest in agricultural land around Polikraishte where, according to the leaked information, he will built greenhouses and will export the ready produce with his own planes. Cargo flights will be in the focus of the new airport concessioner as well.
The managing team at the airport confirmed that representatives of the Italian company have visited the airport to collect up-to date information about the state of the airport.
Veliko Tarnovo is one of ten Bulgarian towns which witness an increase in the price of properties; the rise is minimal though. According to data from the National Statistics Institute asking price for apartments in Veliko Tarnovo marks a climb of 2.1% on a yearly basis. Deals were completed at an average of 365 euro per sqm in 2013 and at 373 euros per sqm in 2014. Prices in the Old Capital are two times lower than those in Sofia
Prices in the last trimester of 2014 were 378 euros per sqm compared with 375 in the third trimester meaning that there is a slow but steady growth in the figures.
The forth trimester saw the same trend in 13 other Bulgarian towns. The most expensive properties remain in Sofia, following by Varna and Burgas.
There is a concessioner willing to operate the Gorna Oryahovitsa airport, it was announced by the chairman of the parliamentary group of the ruling party GERB, Tvetan Tsvetanov, who was elected from Veliko Tarnovo region. The local press centre for the party announced that a letter-initiative from the investor was received in the Ministry of Transport.
According to the information the Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski said that the investment plan has been analysed thoroughly and it contains all the necessary elements and activities for a successful development of the airport.
The Cabinet will grant funding for the restoration of three important tourist sites in Bulgaria. The cash is to come from the Ministry of Culture. The Prime Minister Boyko Borisov came up with the idea after sites which were restored with state money proved to be very successful attracting tourist and visitors. Among them are Belchin, Tsarevets, Perperikon and Sozopol.
One of these places which will benefit from the financing is the palace of the Asenevtsi Dynasty in Veliko Tarnovo. It was recently discovered that the palace was not situated on Tsarevets Hill but on Trapezitsa.
Ivan Asen II (1218–1241) moved the tsar residency to a new place, likely because he decided that Tsarevets was cursed (the four tsars who ruled Bulgaria from 1185 to 1218 were violently killed there).
The restoration project, which strictly complies with the archaeological remnants of the palace standing today at 6-8 m height, is now deposited at the National Historical Museum. The Asenevtsi Fortress span at 660 sqm and was a typical feudal palace built by the brothers Asen and Petar and used during their reign at the time of the Second Bulgarian Tsardom.
After the restoration is complete Veliko Tarnovo will have one more tourist site to boast with.
