Hello, everyone! Here is short monitoring about interesting news from North Central Bulgaria and specifically Veliko Tarnovo area.

This time of the year starts with many reconstructions works in city Veliko Tarnovo and region.Today starts the stepwise closing of the road to Arbanasi.  If you decide, to visit this traditional village at Veliko Tarnovo area, with many traditional houses, churches, monasteries and traditional restaurants, you will have to go through the village of Sheremetya. Other interesting news from this days, about Veliko Tarnovo, is, that there will be a new organization of tourist’s transportation. Buses of tourist’s companies will stop at tree parking zones, from where people will be transported, to the main sightseeing’s of Veliko Tarnovo.  In general, this will reduce air’s pollution and will make traffic much calmer. Veliko Tarnovo records large increase in annual visitors

Investments of more than 7 million leva have been made

vt3Nearly one million tourists have visited the cultural and historical sites of Veliko Tarnovo and the region during the last year. That’s an increase of 40 %, it was announced by the mayor of Veliko Tarnovo. The number of bed places available also marks a rise of 200 beds, due to the fact that two new hotels, five guest houses and also another twelve accommodation establishments have been opened during the past year.The total accommodation capacity now amounts to 6000 beds. For the improvement of tourist infrastructure and for the creating of new attraction sites the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo has invested over 7 million leva.

Currently new projects are being elaborated; it is hoped that they will be granted funding during the new program period. Under those projects the Shishman’s bath in Asenov quarter will be restored. There are plans for the Museum of Wax Figures to be expanded by a 1000 sqm. Also a new park will be built in the foot of the Tsarevets Hill – bicycle lanes and pedestrian zone will connect the medieval churches in Asenov quarter with the Holy Forty Martyrs church. An artisan street will be set up on Tsarevets Fortress. There will be also a riverside walking track that will go along the picturesque Yantra River near Boris Denev Art Gallery. New parking lots will be built in the Old Town of Veliko Tarnovo – by the churches of Holy Forty Martyrs and St. Dimitar. Architects will discuss the building projects for area where the now demolished Old Military Academy was placed before. Some of the plans provide for the construction of a multifunctional congress centre, a military museum and also an aquarium. It is yet to be decided what exactly will be build there.

Veliko Tarnovo Municipality hopes to attract even more tourist after accomplishing all those projects.

Best Town to Live in Bulgaria Competition

Veliko Tarnovo enters a race for the Best Town to Live in Bulgaria Title. The competition is organized by Darik Radio for yet another year. The town to claim the top spot should score best results following 30 criteria concerning the development and the quality of life in the respective town. Veliko Tarnovo, Sofia, Varna and Burgas are the towns which claimed the top honour in the previous years. Radio listeners can also cast their vote online till the end of April here:

Veliko Tarnovo with a new cinema

Iskra Community Centre (between the Police Station and the Green Market) is to host a cinema again after 25 years, Yantra Dnes announced last week. The old hall will be renovated and 3 smaller contemporary halls will be formed. The reconstruction process will take at least 6-7 months meaning the new theatre (which will not be Arena) will start operating in October at the earliest. The new cinema operator is Sofia based and has movie theatres in Sofia, Plovdiv and Targovishte.
