Free books in exchange for your plastic waste

624-400-kniga-izkustvoThe third edition of the Free Books for Your Plastic Waste Campaign is going to be held in Veliko Tarnovo this year. Sofia and Plovdiv already saw the event happening with huge success – more than 7 tonnes of waste was collected and more than 4200 books given away. The campaign will take place on 23rd May, Saturday, from 10 am onwards; the venue will be Mall Veliko Tarnovo.

All you need to do is hand in 1 kg of plastic waste and in return you will receive a voucher for a free book. If you bring 2 kg of plastic you will get 2 vouchers. A third voucher will be not given no matter of the quantity of the rubbish you have. All the plastic waste will be safely disposed of and recycled by the largest packaging recovery organization in Bulgaria – Ecopack.

The Fourth Sheep Breeders’ Fair to take place near Arbanasi

12-05-18-74668340 exhibitors are expected to present the finest of their animals, farming machinery and crafts at the coming Fourth Sheep Breeders’ Fair. It will take place at the Petropavlovski monastery, near Arbanasi from 8th to 10th May. The fair is one of its kind in Europe and is expected to attract participators from more than 13 countries. Organizers are promising lots of events and good mood during the three days. Two stages will be set up; they will host a number of concerts and events. Second egg fete in pavlikeni

12-03-30-78761Cooking contest, concert, competitions as well as souvenir stalls and many attractions will be featured in the coming Egg Feast which is being organized by Pavlikeni Municipality for a second year in a row. The one of its kind fête drew a lot of attention last year and is promising to be just as successful this year. It will be held on May, 1st with events starting from 10.00 am. Co-organizer of the fest will be the local Haipro egg factory which will provide more than 3600 eggs for the day.

The feast will last more than 12 hours and it will be held under the slogan One egg – many ways. According to Pavlikeni’s Mayor, Emanuil Manolov, last year the event gathered more than 3000 people in the town’s square. This year he’s promising even more fun, contests and of course prizes.

We mark Earth Hour 2015

earth-hour-2015Earth Hour 2015 – a global initiative showing people’s concern about the well-being of the planet – will be marked on March, 28th (Saturday) from 8.30 pm. At this exact hour Bulgaria together with the other participating nations across the world will turn its lights off; people throughout the nation will stop consuming electricity for an hour so that they show that they care for the environment and the harm we cause.

This year the Earth Hour in Bulgaria will be dedicated to the rivers. The event will be held under the slogan Rivers needs us – let us provide future for them. Many Bulgarian towns will take part in the movement.

Re-enactments of medieval life on Tsarevets Fortress

Tsarevets palace in Veliko Tarnovo at sunsetOn April, 4th Tsarevets Fortress will be the arena of a number of re-enactments of everyday life routines from medieval times as part of the 12th Cultural Tourism Fair which will take place in Veliko Tarnovo from April, 1st April, 4th. The day’s events start at 10.00 am and will include@

  • Demonstrations of medieval crafts;
  • Weapon replicas exhibition and usage demonstrations;
  • Medieval kids games;
  • Open air museum showing armours, uniforms, military equipment and also plain clothes from Bulgaria, Byzantium, the Russian Principalities, Cumania, Western Europe and the Latin Empire;
  • Lecture on medieval fighting skills and a demonstration (fencing with a single-handed sword and a buckler and crossbow shooting;
  • Acoustic concert with medieval music performed by Der Dudelgeist Band on replica instruments from the Middle Ages.

Entrance is free.

Veliko Tarnovo celebrates on March, 22nd

10383097_747157715335608_7938166478190552644_nOn Sunday Veliko Tarnovo celebrates its official holiday. The events marking the day start at 7.30 am in the The Holy Forty Martyrs Church with a Holy Mass by Veliko Tarnovo’s Metropolitan Bishop Grigoriy. At 9 o’clock flowers will be laid at the monument of Tsar Kaloyan at the same venue. At 9.20 an extract from Asen’s pillar which is placed in that very church will be read out. There will be a march from the church to the building of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality at 9.45. At 10.30 the Mayor will address the citizens of the town. A festive programme with lots of artist and musicians will start at 11o’clock in front of the Municipality building; it will last until the early afternoon. A warm up party will start in front of the European info centre at 4.30 pm and the traditional street parade will kick off at 18.00 pm. Sky lanterns will be lit at 7.30 pm at Asenevtsi Monument near the Art Gallery; after that all the guests and citizens of Veliko Tarnovo can enjoy the 3D mapping show The glory of Asenevtsi Dynasty and the subsequent firework show. Replica Statue of a Terracotta Army Warrior in Veliko Tarnovo

821195A replica of a warrior from the renowned Terracotta Army can now be seen in the foyer of the building accommodating Veliko Tarnovo Municipality Administration. The 2-meters tall figure is a copy of a general serving in the afterlife army of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The sculpture is a special gift for the citizens and guest of the Old Bulgarian capital from the Chinese twin town of Veliko Tarnovo – Xian. The warrior will stay there for one month; after that it will be handed over to the Regional history museum. The terracotta soldier was presented to the audience in the presence of the cultural attaché of China in Bulgaria. The terracotta army was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
