Tennis complex to be built in Shemshevo?

A tennis centre with several courts, changing rooms and café wants to build Parashkev Dimitrov – a businessman interested in the sport and main sponsor of the Vitosha Cup Tennis Tournament.  The complex will be located in Shemshevo, just some 6 km away from Veliko Tarnovo and will span over 6000 sqm. The entrepreneur has already lodged his project at the local authorities for approval. The Mayor of Shemshevo has given a favourable opinion on Dimitrov’s request, offering the most suitable place for it to be built – the terrain east of the village stadium. Veliko Tarnovo Municipal Council must approve the investment before it can be realized.

Eyesore landmark in Veliko Tarnovo to be demolished

865c0c0b4ab0e063e5caa3387c1a87410af12b7fe62184659ea3dd1cce03ca75Kaufland Hypermarket Chain bought the unfinished surgical unit of the Veliko Tarnovo Hospital at an auction for 5.8 million leva. This solves one of the biggest problems of the town as to how to utilize the building and how to deal with the swamp which formed around it because of the faulty plumbing system. The unsightly edifice will be demolished and the wetlands dried out by the company. The plot has excellent location and spans over 18,900 sqm. It is bordering two of the streets with heaviest traffic in Veliko Tarnovo – Krakov and Nikola Gabrovski; the main road Sofia – Varna also passes nearby.

The Veliko Tarnovo branch will open in 2018, according to Dimitar Spasov, CEO of Kaufland Bulgaria. The store will cover about 3,000 sqm and it is expected that around 150 employees will work there.

The 5.8 million leva will be used to fund the construction of a new hospital wing at the site of the so-called New Hospital (which is right next to the now sold plot). The 2 buildings will be connected by a walkway. The new edifice will acommodate the units currently ‘housed’ at the Old Hospital which is located in Varusha Neighbourhood (Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Neonatal Care, Skin & STDs and Psychiatric Departments).

Veliko Tarnovo – a leader in the Balkans

Veliko Tarnovo is the place hosting the largest number of buildings/monuments of cultural heritage significance in the Balkans. The number of these buildings in the old capital is 1580. That was announced yesterday at the National Assembly by Veliko Tarnovo MP Evgeni Stoev during the debates on the adoption of the second reading of amendments to the Law on Cultural Heritage. The Parliament decided to create six regional centres that will have the powers of the National Institute of Immovable Cultural Heritage (NIICH). This will overcome delays as currently NIICH takes too much time to deal with issues or process a request – far beyond the statutory deadline. This caused many problems for citizens and the local authorities even at times when emergency actions had to be undertaken. This is one of the reasons Veliko Tarnovo lost several unique houses-monuments that collapsed waiting for the NIICH decisions. Veliko Tarnovo The new unit will be able to grant permission and to provide certifications for repairs or strengthening of monuments and buildings of cultural heritage significance located locally.

There will also be a large road junction where Hemus intersects the planned highway between Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo. The Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo Highway is to cross the current Sofia – Varna main arterial road near the village of Momin Sbor.

Hemus Motorway is to enter Veliko Tarnovo area near the village of Varbovka (close to Pavlikeni) and will go south to Mihaltsi. It will pass near Lesicheri, Dichin, Vodoley and will reach Polikraishte; it will then continue in the direction of Sushitsa and Gorski Senovets and all the way to Belokopitovo and Shumen.

The Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo Highway is to be constructed at the same time. The selected route will run north of Byala and north of Polski Trambesh near the village of Obedinenie and towards Momin Sbor and Ledenik and then straight to Debelets. Its construction begins next year.

The property market was quick to react to the news. The first deals for plots of land near the planned routes are already underway. A boom in property prices along the highways is also to be expected.
