The expressway from Ruse will pass only 4 km from Veliko Tarnovo

The new expressway from Ruse, which is part of the international Helsinki – Istanbul corridor between Europe and Asia, will run only 4 km away from Veliko Tarnovo, between the villages of Ledenik and Momin Sbor.

Hemus Highway which is also expected to go north of Veliko Tarnovo will cross the new main arterial road from Ruse just 13 km away from the old capital. The road junction is planned to be constructed in the area between Rusalya and Hotnitsa. Another junction north of Polikraishte will connect the current main road to the Danube town with the future highway.

On several occasions it was confirmed by the government that these two major infrastructural projects are amongst the top priorities for the country. Veliko Tarnovo may become an important logistics centre once they are completed and thus boast its economy. The estimated value of the expressway Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo was recently announced – around 580 million euros.

The route of the new arterial road is expected to go along the villages of Karantsi, Radanovo, Petko Karavelovo and Kutsina and then between Ledenik and Momin sbor. From there it will continue towards Gabrovo passing by Debelets. Last year it decided that due to its functions and capacities the new road will be classified as an expressway instead of a highway.

British photographer with an exhibition for a noble cause

Tim Clinch, winner of numerous photography awards, arranges an exhibition in a Sofia art gallery to help save the community centre in the Veliko Tarnovo village of Mindya. He bought a house in the picturesque mountain village 10 years ago and since then spends much of his time there. He was made aware of the problems experienced by the community centre, namely of lack of funds to repair the leaky roof.

Tim decided to shoot the people of the village and its surroundings and show them in a charity exhibition, hoping to gather the necessary funds (roughly 40,000 leva). Thus the project Mindya – a Portrait of a Village was born. The author says: ″The job allowed me to approach people and understand their lifestyle and get into their houses. We shot people while they were cooking, while they were preparing kompots, it was just wonderful!″

The professional work of Tim Clinch is related to travel, decor, food and portrait photography and not only. He works for a wide variety of magazines all over Europe and America and has published many books.

His exhibition Mindya – a Portrait of a Village will be featured in the in the prestigious Photo Festival at Photo Synthesis Gallery in Sofia, from 10 to 27 November as part of the Festival for Photography, People and Ideas. Tim Clinch also has an idea to present the exhibition in Veliko Tarnovo.

The Rainbow Bridge

Veliko Tarnovo now has its own Pet Cemetery, where owners can lay their beloved pets for their eternal rest. The decision for the establishment of the separate plot for animals was approved by the City Council in 2009 but it wasn’t widely known until recently when it started gaining popularity. Now there are more than 120 pets are buried there, among which dogs, cats, canaries, turtles and even fish.

The burial and digging of the grave cost 60 leva if the animal weighs up to 30 kg and 100 leva if it is more than that. For the organization of the ritual you will be charged another 20-25 leva.
