After the success of the operas Nabucco and Aida, the Ruse Opera will present Verdi’s masterpiece, Otello, in front of Veliko Tarnovo’s audience. The show will be held on 27th January from 7 pm in Vasil Levski Culture and Sports Hall.
Otello is considered to be the peak of all of Verdi’s musical compositions. He had a genuine affection for Shakespeare’s work and wanted to compose a magnificent musical piece based on his play Othello. Otello was Verdi’s penultimate opera, and was first performed at La Scala opera house in Milan on February 5, 1887. Shakespeare’s play Othello had all the ingredients of a music drama – malevolent evil, sexual jealousy, murder and suicide, so Verdi had an excellent foundation for his opera.
Tickets are priced between 6 and 15 lv and can be bought at the Vasil Levski Culture and Sports Hall ticket office and on-line.
